The power of plants is always and tragically under appreciated. The smell of these nepeta leaves did something to my spirit that’s beyond logic. But suffice to say, I am a much happier person when plants are around.

solar eclipse? What solar eclipse? my clematis surprising me with a shoot (another one I thought it was dead) has to be more exciting!

The wee poppin daffs!! Omg these are tiny and squeal-worthy! and the buds are just prolific! more happy heart waltzes!

first plant purchase of the year: hydrangea macrophylla ‘wedding gown.’ It’s a double blooming lacecap. I usually stay away from double bloomers because the excess petals make it difficult for pollinators to access the pollen. but these still looked pretty open and accessible, so i went for it. cuz she is an absolute stunner, as will be proven later.

finally! FINALLY! they have begin to explode! my heart is waltzing.

Those star flower seeds though. Just gorgeous. But perhaps I should have sown sun flowers in honor of the eclipse. I prefer to plant those in situ tho, they seem to do better. And it’s still too cold outside the greenhouse for that.

Potted up my dahlia bulbs. This paltry batch is gonna be a real crap shoot. I’ve previously written about doubting the strength of plants. But, ya’ll, these were not looking happy when I pulled them out of their winter storage. Fingers will be crossed.

while their neighbor - the sage - seems to be struggling, these sedums are proving that doubting plants is for the faint of heart. these babes propagated from a bouquets of flowers a friend gave me from her garden. Right now, I’m counting three free sedums.

buds are finally getting thicc. think I’ll be getting daffodils soon (finally). Did I get the late blooming ones?

First garden bee sighting of the year! I thought she was dead tho. So I gently nudged the flower after I took this and she gave me the finger.

I did not stick to the sowing list, and I’m not sorry. I sowed mostly perennials whose seeds are born to withstand some cold. Otherwise, I sowed veggies and herbs that were in the “sow 6-8 weeks prior to last frost” category (think cilantro and spinach). Another two weeks before sowing annuals and veg, I think.
